Army Worms
Army worms — Pseudaletia unipuncta — are hairless, greenish-brown caterpillars, up to 1.5 inches long, with a white stripe on their sides and back. They hatch in the spring and appear in the hundreds or even thousands, eating lawns as well as corn, hay and other forage crops.
After two or three weeks of feeding, the army worms form cocoons, emerging as small tan moths of the noctuidae family.
Army worms do their work quietly, chowing on the blades of grass, turning green lawns brown in a matter of days.
